The Wad format is still used today but there are some things you need to know about it
- wads can be compressed
- the have an 8 character limit
- they always end in .wad
- they have no tress aka no folders
- files in a wad are know as lumps aka lump on a log
- all files inside are lumps even textures
Among the many lumps in a .WAD File, include Music Files(In .mus format; the Macintosh port loads music in a seperate folder with '.MID!' files), DeHackEd patches(The DEHACKED Lump, which is only usable in source ports such as ZDOOM), ect.
- there are two types of wads iwads and pwads iwads can stand alone without any other wads while pwads need a certain iwad to run
