::Yes in fact. At some point manc updated ImageMagick and it now thumbnails GIFs properly. The catch was that we had to go into the {{c|w/images/cache}} directory and deliberately delete all the malformed 8-byte thumbnails earlier generated, or else MediaWiki would just continue to use the broken cached versions. So actually this had been "fixed" for a long time without us knowing. I HAD noticed other GIFs were thumbnailing correctly but that just made me think maybe it was an issue specific to certain images. --[[User:Quasar|Quasar]] ([[User talk:Quasar|talk]]) 15:44, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Deleting and reuploading

Instead of deleting and reuploading the file multiple times, please describe precisely what problem you are seeing. Without any articles actually using this image, it's hard for me to even figure out what the complaint is, let alone try to do anything about it. --Quasar 15:37, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

The picture was used in pain elemental: [1]
The problem was that the image wasn't visible in the article. I then copied the picture, turned it into PNG format and re-uploaded it as a new file. [2] It seemed to solve the thing. Was Fox666's wiki code for Doom23.gif incorrect or is this about something else? --Jartapran 16:07, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Seems to be a bug in the wiki setup. The image scaling software is spitting out a 10-byte file for any request to thumbnail this image. It's a GIF89a header with no image data attached. Either the process is crashing or is just glitchy... --Quasar 20:28, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Please maintain for now

This image is being used to monitor the status of this outstanding backend problem, so its deletion should be postponed. --Quasar (talk) 17:07, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Yes in fact. At some point manc updated ImageMagick and it now thumbnails GIFs properly. So actually this had been "fixed" for a long time without us knowing.
