MAP12: Deimos Lab is the twelfth level for console versions of Doom, based on the original E2M4: Deimos Lab. It was modified by American McGee to adapt limitations. The original authors of the map are Tom Hall and Sandy Petersen. The map first appeared in Atari Jaguar version, and was later used in the 3DO, Sega 32X, Game Boy Advance, Sony PlayStation, and Sega Saturn versions.

Texture theme

Like Phobos Lab this level is given hellish atmosphere similar to that of Inferno.

The marble is used almost everywhere on the map replacing most of tech and other brick textures.

Music

The map uses the following music tracks:

Port Track Composer Notes
Atari Jaguar "Kitchen Ace (And Taking Names)" Robert Prince Only plays in the intermission screen after the map is completed.
3DO "At Doom's Gate" Robert Prince Re-orchestrated version played by live band
Sega 32X "Dark Halls" Robert Prince
Game Boy Advance "Demons on the Prey" Robert Prince
Sony PlayStation "Corrupted" Aubrey Hodges
Sega Saturn "Beyond Fear" Aubrey Hodges

Walkthrough

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials

You start in an empty room with a sole teleporter. All you need is to step on it to be brought into another room. However, hidden secret#1 is found in this room but it is optional.

Once you will be in the other area, you will see a varying monster group ahead that consists of two or four units. Dispose of them. Now you have the choice to go to the lift upstairs or proceed further to the west. If you choose the lift you will find a room with secret#2 which is optional. So, in any case you need to go all the way to the west.

The following area will be a room filled with green nukage on the floor, so be careful. This room has hidden secret#3. Read below for how to find it. You need to quickly step on the safe island of the central structure. There is nothing to search for in these small rooms, as they only contain decorations (depending on the console version you are playing these may be either corpses, gargoyle panels or just gray walls). Jump over the second nukage pit to get to the complete safety of the west side. Destory all the imps in the corridor that you encounter. Note you can visit a room behind the passageway to the right. It is optional and contains a room with a crowd of enemies and good items, such as armor, and secret#4.

Go further in the corridor until there will be a baron face on your sight and a red brick room seen to the right. Leave the room for later and keep going to turn to the left. Behind the door there may be a baron of hell but this depends on the chosen skill level. It appears only on the Hurt me plenty and higher skills. On the easier skill levels there is only a demon, which should not make a significant problem. Fight whatever enemy until it is dead and push the button to lower the lift. Now take the blue keycard and having it return to the mentioned red brick room. If you want you may push the second switch that will remove the barrier before the blue keycard. This will allow you to find a room at the end which contains a catwalk and many useful items, as well as radsuit and secret#5.

Once in the brick room, open the blue door but mind an imps trap to the right of the door. The door reveals another red brick room. Go to the right there and you will find the yellow door and, on the high skill levels, another baron of hell. The yellow key is in fact very near. Go to the left where a marble house-like strucutre is. The door is locked from inside, so go to the rear side of the house. Kill a former human and a shotgun guy (if it is here), then enter the house via the opened door. Note that this house also acts as a trap. When you take the yellow key, the third door inside the house will open to reveal an ambush. Destroy one or two enemies and push the button to release yourself from being entrapped in the house. Open the yellow door now.

You reveal a long circular corridor. Go to the left until you can see a red lift to the right of you. Step on it and you will be in a large circular room. Two alcoves on the north sides of the walls contain crowds of enemies but it is optional to kill them. Go around to the south of the room. Enter a narrow passageway leading into a sub-room in the center. Destroy two enemies here and collect all items. If you take the supercharge you will trigger a wall to go down in the circular room. This will reveal the final teleporter in the level. Use this teleporter to get into a room with scrolling skulls. Head to the right killing a demon. The following room contains lava. The exit seems to be unreachable for now. To access it drop into the lava and quckly run to the left. Push a button to raise the bridge. You can quickly step on the raising bridge. Howver, if the bridge is risen enough to get upon it use the teleporter. You will be back in the circular room. Just reuse the teleporter to get the scrolling skulls. Now walk on the bridge in the lava room. Behind the door are two imps and the switch. Kill the imps and press the switch to finish (before quitting you can find secret#10).
