The switch on linedef 449 (just east of the circular crusher) does not respond to input in any way except by playing a sound effect. This is because it uses the switch texture as both its upper and lower textures, and only the upper texture is animated by the game. This animation cannot be seen because the switch on the upper texture is out of the player's view.

MAP19: Maltraiter is the nineteenth level of Memento Mori. It was designed by Michael Rapp and uses the music track "Night Bats" by Mark Klem. The level's texturing style changes constantly as it progresses, more so than any other level in the megawad.

"Maltraiter" is a French verb meaning "to mistreat" or "to manhandle."

Secrets

  1. In the square marble area, press on the southern face in the entryway. Walk into the inner, southeast corner, and the wall will lower to reveal a passageway. Enter the next passageway, revealed by the switch you pressed earlier, to the west to find a teleporter. Walk around the teleporter and press on the wall with the face on it to reveal a backpack. (sector 151)
  2. At the end of the marble area, before the bridge section, press on the eastern wall with the face on it to reveal a secret room containing a box of shells, a plasma rifle, and two cells (three on Hurt Me Plenty or lower.) (sector 189)

Bugs

The switch on linedef 449 (just east of the circular crusher) does not respond to input in any way except by playing a sound effect. This is because it uses the switch texture as both its upper and lower textures, and only the upper texture is animated by the game. This animation cannot be seen because the switch on the upper texture is out of the player's view.
