Redesign - 20200606[edit]

Taking comments on a proposed redesign that would obsolete the additional "era" templates that create a disconnect in id Software-related browsing, as well as a stylistic issue of having multiple nav templates in a row, by combining all three present templates into one. --Quasar (talk) 13:52, 6 June 2020 (CDT)

Compared to this, it's a big improvement. --Xymph (talk) 14:48, 6 June 2020 (CDT)
The goal is solid: gives the reader more context and more related places to go next, and makes it hard for an editor to transclude the wrong era.  :>  I also like the two main border lines being slightly thicker — if that's serendipitous, you needn't say so — and other formatting seems to carry over from the existing templates, used successfully for years (no thanks to my ranting at the time).
Do we remember why the link font size is so much smaller than the first column's?  Compare to this.  It's more balanced on my phone but then the logos are squashed (which may be a MediaWiki issue).  HTH / KUTGW.  Ryan W (living fossil) 16:43, 6 June 2020 (CDT)
I've made the text larger, let me know what you think. --Quasar (talk) 20:34, 7 June 2020 (CDT)
Whoa, yes that takes a deep cleansing breath of the screen real estate.  :>   (I'd be the last to know if my eyesight were the issue of course...)  Acknowledging that margins and other geometrical markup always take considerable effort to configure on something like this, yet I shouldn't comment on them since I have a 4:3 display — otherwise it looks great.  HTH.  Ryan W (living fossil) 19:02, 8 June 2020 (CDT)
Good idea, but it brings to light that the old logo has not been aspect ratio corrected... --Gez (talk) 11:03, 7 June 2020 (CDT)
How 'bout now? --Gez (talk) 11:13, 7 June 2020 (CDT)
