Doom Wiki:Copyrights

From DoomWiki.org

As outlined in our terms of use, all text on the Doom Wiki is freely licensed exclusively under the terms of the CC BY-SA 4.0 International License, except where otherwise explicitly noted. This is an open content license which requires the following:

Cc-by new.svg

Attribution (BY)[edit]

If you wish to republish content found here, you must provide proper citation in the form of either a backlink to the page where you found the information, or a complete serialization of the page's revision history as is available through the MediaWiki API.

Cc-sa.svg

ShareAlike (SA)[edit]

You may only reuse content found on this site under the same license or a compatible license as defined in its terms. Content being integrated here from elsewhere must be under a compatible license.

Individuals who do not agree with the terms of this license should not contribute to the wiki, and are not allowed to use this wiki's content on other sites except to the extent allowed by the principle of fair use.

Reuse of text[edit]

Previously published text may be integrated with the Doom Wiki only if written permission from the original author(s) is obtained (e-mail is acceptable) and posted to that article's talk page. Edits which look like plagiarism will be reverted.

In-game text restrictions[edit]

The Doom Wiki does not have permission from Bethesda to use verbatim in-game text, including any codex entries, cutscene/video transcriptions, or dialogue sequences. Brief quotations in an appropriate context are justifiable under fair use. Edits which add extensive verbatim in-game text material will be reverted or deleted immediately.

Use of CC BY-SA 3.0 material[edit]

Please note that to be used on this wiki, content from other wikis that is under the CC BY-SA 3.0 Unported license must be upgraded to the CC BY-SA 4.0 International license, a conversion which is allowed under the terms of CC BY-SA 3.0. However, it is not allowed to take content from this site and use it on a wiki under the CC BY-SA 3.0 Unported license without the express permission of that content's author(s). If you are the only author of the material, you may use it however you wish.

Images[edit]

Image copyrights are more complex (as is well known on Wikipedia), and Doom Wiki does not pretend to be an authority on copyright law. Our current policy is that:

  • Screen shots of commercially released games can be used under "fair use".
  • Screen shots of PWADs can be used under "fair use" as long as the maps themselves contain no material of dubious copyright status.
  • Map views extracted from WADs can be used under "fair use", provided they contain no raw graphics lumps.
  • LMPs and PWADs, when uploaded by their creator, can be licensed under the CC BY-SA provided that no incompatible license or contract is already in place.

Other types of images are discussed on a case-by-case basis (see our image uploading policy).

Public domain[edit]

Authors may also opt to release their own files into the public domain. Please ensure that all of the content in your file is your own property, or is ineligible for copyright, before marking a contribution as public domain.
