Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials[edit]

First, you may turn around and enter the gate house to find a shotgun guarded by a zombie. Then, head south and around the side of the building where you will find the main entrance to the building on your right or a small door straight ahead of you.

If you choose the main entrance, clear out the zombies and head down the corridor on the north side to find the blue key on skills 1-3.

If you choose the small door, you'll enter the theater room. Clear out the zombies and go north into the main corridor to come out on the west side of the main entrance.

If you are playing on skills 4 or 5, the blue key is in a different place. From the main entrance, head down the corridor on the north side. After reaching a large area with a water pool, make a right turn, and you will see a small door on the north side leading to the delivery area. The blue key rests on top of a small box you can reach from ground level.

After you obtain the blue key, there are a number of paths to reach the blue door. Inside the large area with the water pool, there is a raised wooden platform next to the water pool. Walk onto the platform, and you will see a lift in the northwest corner of the platform. The blue door is directly west of this lift. Alternatively, south of the theater, there is another lift that takes you to the blue door. From this lift, go west and north to reach the blue door on the west. In order to reach this lift from the main entrance, you must go down the south corridor until the end, and in order to reach this lift from the large area with the water pool, you must go south until the southernmost wall and then east (the lift will be on the right). Alternatively, from the delivery area, you can press one of the switches that raises the large doors. Then, head north into an opening that leads to a staircase. If you go up this staircase and through the corridor afterwards, you will reach another lift on your right. From this lift, you can head south to reach the blue door on your right.

Through the blue door, you will find a long staircase. After ascending this staircase, you will find a hallway on your left that will take you to the exit room.

Other points of interest[edit]

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the area that contains the blue key on skills 1-3 (the corridor north of the main entrance), you can find a very slightly offset part of the western wall. Behind it is a secret room containing a box of bullets, a box of shotgun shells, and a stimpack. (sector 247) This door can also be opened by using the north silver tech wall on the raised platform that the green armor sits on in the area with the water pool.
  2. Behind the screen in the theater room, you can find a switch that opens a secret area outside the UAC facility. Shoot the screen to make it raise up, revealing said switch. After pressing the switch, head back outside, and, just in front of the passageway leading to the main entrance, you will find a part of the barrier around the facility that is low enough for you to climb over. Climb over the barrier, and take a right turn (go north) to find the newly opened secret area containing a mega armor. (sector 244) To get back into the UAC facility from the outside, there is a small step you can climb on in the same location where you entered the outside area.

Speedrunning[edit]

Routes and tricks[edit]

For a straight speedrun, head south from the start area to the main entrance to the building. You can shoot one of the sergeants in the north corridor to obtain a shotgun, then head down to the delivery area with the blue key. After obtaining the blue key, head back to the closest lift near the wooden platform, while picking off sergeants in your path to obtain extra shells. There is a minor shortcut you can do by pressing the lift from the outside of the platform next to the water pool, which is slightly faster than doing so from the wooden platform. From then, head on through the blue door to the exit. You can also perform a glide in the delivery area on the way back from the blue key between a crate and the west wall of the area, but the glide is only viable for tool-assisted speedruns, as it saves very little time, and must be performed very quickly. For an episode or full run, it may be beneficial to take a detour to obtain the megaarmor at the start of the map.

Pacifist-style speedruns can take the same route as UV-Speed, though the lift on the wooden platform is unreliable, as the zombiemen in that area can block it from raising and can also do significant amounts of damage to the player. Thus, taking the lift south of the theatre room is much safer for pacifist.

UV-Max and UV -fast speedruns take the shotgun at the beginning of the level, then take the megaarmor secret, while picking off enemies along the route. Then, take the main entrance, and kill the zombies directly in front of the main entrance. Then, clear out the theatre room and the large area with the water pool. After that, take a detour for the second secret, and enter the delivery area for the blue key. After obtaining the blue key and clearing out the delivery area, take one of the large doors in the delivery area out to the staircase on the north, and clear out the zombies on that staircase. Then, take the lift on the right down the corridor past the staircase, and, while waiting for the lift, clear out the zombies on the ledge above the water pool. Afterwards, clear out all the zombies on the uppermost ledge, and take the blue door to clear out all the zombies on the final staircase and the zombies in the room at the top of the staircase. Finally, you can go to the exit room and take out the imp. Efficiently lining up monsters with the shotgun can be used to cut the time down significantly.

NM-Speed speedruns take the same route as UV-Speed, though generally safer strategies to make greater use of cover to avoid damage from the sergeants. For NM100, you can obtain the megaarmor at the beginning of the level, and then, on the way to the blue key, obtain the second secret; otherwise, the route is identical to UV-Speed and NM-Speed.

As there is no berserk pack or chainsaw on this level, UV Tyson speedruns only use the pistol on this map. For the route, after killing the zombie in the shotgun room near the start, take the staircase on the north of the start area as the secrets need not be obtained. Then, you can clear out all the zombies up the staircase and down the corridor after the staircase and take the lift down to the wooden platform. Clear out the large area with the water pool, then the delivery area, and, after obtaining the blue key, take the large doors to reach the main entrance. Clear out the zombies in front of the small door near the main entrance, and enter the theatre room and clear it out. Then, clear out the corridor outside the theatre room and kill the zombies in the room in front of the main entrance. Take the lift at the south of the corridor, and clear out the zombies on the uppermost ledge with the blue door. Afterwards, clear out all the zombies past the blue door.
