MAP16: Mr. X is the sixteenth map of the megawad Scythe 2. It was designed by Erik Alm and uses the music track "SA-X Arrival" from Metroid Fusion. It is the first map of the waste episode.

Mr. X was featured in Doomworld's Top 100 Most Memorable Maps, placing 21st.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

There is only one foe in this map - a deadly evil marine who will make occasional appearances before the real fight near the red key. He is very fast and armed with a plasma gun.

At the start, shoot the switch on the right in front of you, then go through the opening to your right. Turn right and you'll reach a room with a dead marine on the floor and a switch. Flip the switch then exit the room and go forward. Drop into the pit to your right, collect the yellow key and press the switch. Turn around and you should spot a wall lowering to your right. Go through the passageway, use the switch at the end and ride the lift next to it.

Continue forward, turn right and go through the yellow bars. Turn right to arrive at a room with some lights: there's a switch in this room surrounded by barrels, so flip it, turn around and move to your left. Grab the blue key, open the blue bars and make a hairpin turn to your right to arrive at a cargo room. Move past the space between the two stacks of boxes and turn left to find the red key. Turn around and a wall will open in front of you, so continue straight ahead, climb up the stairs and press the red switch to your right. Doing this will raise red bars in this room allowing access to the outside that serves as the exit.

Secrets[edit]

  1. After getting the yellow keycard, open the yellow bars and shoot the lights to your right (north). This will open a misaligned part of the wall behind you (south). Behind the new entrance, you will find nine health bonuses and an armor. (sector 139)
  2. Pressing the western switch in Secret #1 will open a small chamber between both sets of blue bars with a backpack inside. (sector 146)
  3. In the room full of boxes, face the western set of these from the north and climb them. Then jump towards the other set of boxes where a chaingun (or shotgun on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare skill levels), and get it. (sector 187)
