Arcades3D
From DoomWiki.org
Arcades3D is a Spanish-speaking website and forum dedicated mostly to classic Doom and 90's FPS games in general, created and hosted by Anarko. The site also hosted various multiplayer and mapping tournaments, with the last map tourney organized in 2023, as well as many other mods for Doom and other games. Many abandonware games are also ready to download, accompanied by a detailed review of it.
Well known members of the Hispanic Doom community contributed to the site, such as Eye del Cul, Perro Seco, Gustavo, Aluqah, Ventor Tormentor, and Wraith.
History of Arcades3D[edit]
Over the years, Arcades3D became one of the most important Spanish-speaking community websites about Doom, Quake, Duke3D, and other classic FPS games.
Although Anarko was the original founder of the website back in 2004, site management was soon inherited by Eye del Cul, another notable figure in the Doom community, not only for being a long term manager in Arcades3D, but also for his Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem 3D maps and mods. After a relatively long period, the website had a few issues with its hosting provider, and as a result, its domain name changed from "arcades3d.com" to "arcades3d.net".
Around 2019 or 2020, due to various circumstances, the website hosted on "arcades3d.net" became static, so it seemed as if the webpage was simply frozen in time. Fortunately, that was not the case and the management of the website and the forum were passed over to Arrovf, who as of 2024, is in charge of the website, with a new domain name: "arcades3d.org"
Although forum and website activity is greatly reduced nowadays, there are still some loyal users who visit the page daily. There are still a few events being organized such as vanilla Doom mapping tournaments, the last one taking place between 2022 and 2023.
Cabro's Legacy and Arcades3D[edit]
Cabro was the administrator of a now defunct Doom website called La página de Cabro (archived 🏛) (Cabro's website). He became known for the vanilla Doom mapping contests that he organized over the years called Torneo de Mapas de Cabro (Cabro's mapping tournament).
The first tournament was organized during year 2000, with four participants: Jdoom, Eva, Omar (Sym), and Bernat García. Each consecutive year, a new mapping tournament was taking place, but since 2007, the tournament's host became Arcades3D and its name was changed to Torneo de mapas de Doom/Doom2 (Doom/Doom2 mapping tournament), as Cabro himself was not involved as organizer anymore.
In either case, this event was of special relevance for the Hispanic Doom community each year, and more participants started to join little by little. The last tournament took place in 2022, and the voting period during 2023. The tournament itself is open to anyone, even non-Hispanic community members, although without being able to understand Spanish, it might be challenging to follow up.
In 2016, a compilation of all the maps released for Cabro's tournament was created by several members of the forum, and it was named Cabro's Legacy. It is basically a megawad where the player can navigate a central hub with entrances to each individual map ever released in the tournaments. To play this megawad, a ZDoom compatible source port is needed.
