The CTF Standard

The modern CTF Standard is, at this point, an informal agreement by ZDaemon and Skulltag to have CTF maps which are compatable with each other. It started as a converstaion between Alex "AlexMax" Mayfield and Brad "Carnevil" Carney, with a proposal by Carnevil to make CTF maps easier to make for Skulltag, seeing the explosion of popularity of CTF mapping in ZDaemon. From there, AlexMax convinced both Carnevil and the administration of ZDaemon to both impliment what is now known as the CTF Standard.

The CTF Standard consists of an agreed-upon list of ThingID's for player starts and flags to use. They are as follows:

  • ThingID 5080: Blue Start
  • ThingID 5081: Red Start
  • ThingID 5130: Blue Flag
  • ThingID 5131: Red Flag

All a mapper has to do is ensure these things in their map, and their map is guarenteed to run on both ZDaemon and Skulltag. However, due to a bug in Skulltag, if it finds a Player 1 or Deathmatch start anywhere in the map, it will fail to work. Carnevil has stated that this behavior is considered a bug and will be ironed out in a future version. However, as of ZDaemon 1.08 and Skulltag 0.96f, the CTF standard has been implimented in both source ports.
