A clip is a weapon magazine containing 10 bullets, ammo for the pistol or the chaingun (20 on the I'm Too Young To Die and Nightmare! skill levels). It is colored gray in Doom and Doom II and dark green in Doom 64, and contains yellow bullets. The clips dropped by defeated zombiemen and SS Nazis contain only 5 bullets each (10 on ITYTD and NM) and, unlike preexisting clips, disappear when crushed beneath doors or moving ceilings.
Each bullet does between 5 and 15 hit points of damage (determined using Doom's pseudorandom number generator). Note that, although shots fired by zombies and the Wolfenstein SS inflict only 3-15 points each, the bullets in their dropped ammo clips behave like any other bullets when used by the player.
Although referred to as clips in the game, the items depicted are more properly known as magazines; that is, they contain bullets rather than merely hold them in place.
