Daedalus: Alien Defense is a 32-level megawad released in 2003 by TeamTNT as a sequel to Icarus: Alien Vanguard. Originally developed as "Doom 2000", it was the first ZDoom mod created by TeamTNT.

The soundtrack consists of seven original songs written by Rich Nagel.

Daedalus: Alien Defense received an Honorable Mention at the 2004 Cacowards.

Levels

The levels are divided in hubs. Each hub features an identical "travel tube" level, which is used as a cutscene for travel between levels. MAP17 is an unnamed fake level, which consists of a single, short corridor between two small octagonal rooms. In addition, there is also an unnamed level in the MAP34 slot, a copy of the MAP17 non-map. As a result, on the 33 levels included in the wad, there are only 27 "real" levels.

Hub 1: Out of the trashcan and into the fire

Hub 2: Gentlebeings, start your engines

Hub 3: Driving Miss Deadly

Hub 4: Wo ist der U-bahn, bitte?

Working title confusion

After John Carmack mentioned the possibility of an id Software product called Doom 2000, and id subsequently registered the doom2000.com domain name, some community members conflated it with this project due to its "Doom 2000" working title, and even fueled speculation that id Software had bought the then-in-progress modification from TeamTNT, as they had earlier done with TNT: Evilution. Ty Halderman was naturally dismissive of the rumors:

"How about Doom2000? Sure, might as well tell you about that one too... We've just done build 1, with 5 levels in progress. We have several sounds, over 100 textures and mini-stories for the hubs defined. It's looking pretty good but we don't want to get you too excited. You know how you all got when id registered the doom2000.com domain, making up your own stories about what that meant (it's no longer a domain, BTW, if that tells you something). Just sit back and relax--it'll be good when it's done."
