2021-01

In my monthly check for anniversaries I only found one suitable entry, the 25th of Duke Nukem 3D's release at the end of next month. So in a (possibly) bold move, how about featuring the Duke on the Doom wiki frontpage?
Btw, I flunked on Hexen's 25th anniversary on October 30 :-\ , so that may come back in some other, unrelated month. --Xymph (talk) 05:27, 7 December 2020 (CST)

I feel I should recuse, per my history of arguing that Build-engine and Quake-engine titles shouldn't have articles.  FWIW, the most direct influence on Doom seems to be missing: reuse of Build code in ZDoom.  (Remarks like this don't illuminate anything for me, probably because I'm not a developer, so I'm hoping someone will explicate in the article eventually.)  KUTGW all.  Ryan W (living fossil) 05:58, 12 December 2020 (CST)
Well, I don't really know what to make of that. Should something else be featured then, and, if so, what? Catch up on Hexen as yet?
Quasar mentioned on IRC to have another idea, but is postponing his nomination to the very last day, too. ;) --Xymph (talk) 04:21, 31 December 2020 (CST)
Changed my mind; I think it's a fun and unusual feature. --Quasar (talk) 01:42, 2 January 2021 (CST)

2021-02

My monthly scan for anniversaries turned up the 10th anniversary of severing our old chains. Hooray. But better let bygones be bygones? It is also 28 years since Doom alphas v0.2 and v0.3 were created, so it might be fun to put them up as a joint feature? --Xymph (talk) 02:59, 17 January 2021 (CST)

Agreed with the latter as a joint feature. Perhaps an intro lead to the Unofficial Doom Specs might also fit right? --Redneckerz (talk) 16:42, 18 January 2021 (CST)
Not sure I'm following... why would the UDS (from 1994) fit together with the 1993 alphas? Besides, there only such much room in the Featured corner, a third item would be too much I'd think. --Xymph (talk) 02:30, 19 January 2021 (CST)

2021-03

Anniversary-wise, there is the 27th of Origwad & CROSS.WAD, but we just did a double-bill. There are also the 25th of Kick Attack! and of Icarus: Alien Vanguard. But a nomination of something completely different would also be fine. --Xymph (talk) 13:28, 21 February 2021 (CST)

My vote goes to Icarus, an excellent mod and a historic landmark for TeamTNT and the community, definitely worthy of being featured. --Dynamo128 (talk) 18:03, 21 February 2021 (CST)
I say Icarus, but I also suggest Mock 2: The Speed of Stupid. It's the 12th most played PWAD, features a lot of big names (for 2003), has 41 levels, and includes a custom soundtrack. ~Maggie
"12th most played" in what list? But sure, Mock 2 can be featured, but then it would make more sense to do that in November for its 18th release anniversary. --Xymph (talk) 02:51, 22 February 2021 (CST)
FWIW, I'd support Icarus or CROSS: retrospectively both seem overshadowed by contemporaries for mainly historical reasons, and deserve more recognition.  TeamTNT's aesthetic hasn't aged gloriously  :>  but back then, no shortage of players declared Icarus everything Evilution should have been.  For CROSS, I notice the paraphrased material has barely changed from my draft, making any technical/rendering explanations suspect.  KUTGW everyone.  Ryan W (living fossil) 20:08, 28 February 2021 (CST)
I noticed the featured article screenshot is still the one from Doom alpha v0.2 instead of the Icarus: Alien Vanguard title screen. FistMarine (talk) 08:36, 2 March 2021 (CST)

2021-04

My monthly tour for anniversaries turned up 3DO's 25th, Hexen (Sega Saturn)'s 24th and 2015 Doom source data release's 6th, but none particular stand out for me. There's also the release of Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil 16 years ago, which would be more fitting if only because we don't feature Doom 3-related articles that often. But as usual, other nominations are welcome. --Xymph (talk) 10:40, 21 March 2021 (CDT)

I have noticed that classics like Daedalus and Eternal Doom have yet to be covered. The former has a interesting development history (Not yet mentioned on the article yet) where it used Jim Flynn's Patcher tool as build and development system, utilizing batch files and what not. Nothing anniversary related, but hey. Also, ill be trying to cover some notoriously difficult to install WAD sets (Ottawa University) but as it will be the first time ill be using a map template, except some mess ups there. My primary drive isn't so much describing the levels and the layouts themselves but rather, what the package actually does that made it so impossible to install.--Redneckerz (talk) 16:24, 21 March 2021 (CDT)
Those are feature-worthy mods indeed, but I feel for a change of scenery a non-mod feature would be better this round. Let's queue those, once you've made the planned changes, for another occasion. --Xymph (talk) 03:09, 1 April 2021 (CDT)
Resurrection of Evil seems like the best choice to me :) --Dynamo128 (talk) 07:07, 1 April 2021 (CDT)

2021-05

Next month is 18 years since the release of Masters of Doom which might be a suitable feature in view of the apparently cancelled TV series? There are also the 24th anniversaries of Doom Music (album) and Hexen (Sony PlayStation). Any preferences, or other suggestions? --Xymph (talk) 11:18, 24 April 2021 (CDT)

Master of Doom seems obvious. But for July i would want to add Doom 2D - I recently did a rework on the page and its much more complete now, including release date. So, Masters of Doom first, and Hexen as second really.--Redneckerz (talk) 11:30, 24 April 2021 (CDT)

2021-06

On the one hand, Final Doom was released 25 years ago next month, making it a solid candidate to get featured. On the other hand, Quake was released 25 years ago next month, making it not much less of good candidate. Choices, choices... --Xymph (talk) 10:36, 19 May 2021 (CDT)

I'd go with Final Doom. It's core, and that's a pretty monumental anniversary for it. --Quasar (talk) 10:51, 20 May 2021 (CDT)

2021-08

I nominate Bloodlite Krypto's meltdown.

Not sure if you're intentionally sharing a personal pet peeve here, or are simply misunderstanding the nature of a feature nomination, but its first essential characteristic is that it has to be an existing wiki article... --Xymph (talk) 16:32, 1 July 2021 (CDT)
Apologies, just thought it'd be interesting. MargaretThatcher (talk) 18:46, 5 July 2021 (CDT)

The usual anniversary checks resulted in the 25th for Doom95, Army of Darkness TC and Squadron 417; and the 17th for Doom 3. The first two have the most comprehensive articles. Preferences, anyone? --Xymph (talk) 02:42, 22 July 2021 (CDT)

Doom95 gets my vote. --Quasar (talk) 03:41, 22 July 2021 (CDT)
