Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
Turn right and follow the water past some golems until you find an alcove with Gauntlets of the Necromancer, then turn right to find a chamber with a blue switch on the south wall. Press this switch and deal with two undead warriors that are released next to you, then return to the starting point and head north until you see an opening in the wall on your left - behind this opening is a cavern with enemies guarding a dragon claw and two energy orbs. Climb the steps in this cavern to the top, and the wall in front of you will open to reveal an undead warrior guarding another switch; press this switch to open the wall behind you, then step past it to find an ophidian guarding a room containing the blue key, which is sitting on a pillar.
Two walls will lower as you enter the room to reveal enemies; step through the south wall then turn left to open a door leading to a wooden room. Press the skull switch between the bookcases then return to the blue key room and head north-west to another wooden door; behind this door is a switch that will reveal a teleporter leading back to the cavern where you found the first blue switch. Return to the starting point to find that a blue-runed step has risen allowing you to step up to a grassy area with wooden buildings. Open the door of the building directly ahead of you to reveal a maulotaur; kill it or lure it out of the building then go inside to find another skull switch inside which will lower the pillar holding the blue key. After going back to the blue key room, you can reach the key by stepping from the waterfall columns either side of it.
Go through the south or west wall openings then head south-west up some steps to a large hall with wooden pillars that contains nitrogolems, undead warriors and ophidians hiding behind these columns. Head north to a door requiring the blue key and go through it to a library - the green key can be seen on top of a platform in this room. Head due north from the platform to a skull switch and press it to lower the walls on either side, then step past these walls to a chamber with several monsters including ophidians on a raised ledge. Press the skull switch in the south-east corner seven times to raise a blue lift up to a second skull switch, then press this switch three times to raise another lift by the ophidians' ledge. Use the lift to get on the ledge and collect the Tome of Power sitting on the blue throne, then press the skull switch behind the throne to lower a teleporter next to it. Use the throne to climb up to the teleporter, which will send you to the platform with the green key.
Take the green key then return to the large hall with wooden columns and head east to a door requiring that key. Push past the nitrogolem and sabreclaws guarding the door then head east down some broken steps to a sludge pool (which is not damaging). In the middle of this pool is a raised platform with a maulotaur - press the green triangle wall on the south-east corner of this platform to lower a lift which you can use to get on top of it, then press the skull switch here to reveal a staircase by the east wall. Go up this staircase to a green hall with an iron lich and other monsters, then press the skull switch behind the throne and return to the large hall with columns. Kill the enemies that have teleported in then press the skull switch that has been revealed in the south-west wall to reveal some large steps leading up to the exit door. Kill the enemies waiting on the steps along with the golems that teleport in, then destroy the iron lich behind the exit door and step on the teleporter to proceed to E1M7: Arcane Corridor.
If you want to use the secret exit to E1M9: Nightstone Hollow instead, press the green mural next to the exit door to reveal an icy room with a second exit teleporter (this room is secret #8).
Other points of interest[edit]
A firemace can spawn in one of two possible locations:
- In the large hall with wooden columns, next to a quiver of ethereal arrows, inferno orb and energy orb.
- In the north-east corner of the level next to a pen containing a maulotaur, along with greater runes, an energy orb, a flame orb and mace spheres. Do not stay in this corner for too long as there is a crushing ceiling above it.
As soon as the level starts, enter the tunnel behind you to find an ethereal crossbow, silver shield, Tome of Power and two quartz flasks.
In the building containing the switch that lowers the blue key, there is a platform with a phoenix rod and two crystal vials. Climb up the steps in this building to lower the platform.
Pressing the switch behind the blue throne will lower two platforms to the south and east holding a mystic urn and an enchanted shield.
