Walkthrough
Essentials
You begin in the south-east corner of the outer area of the fortress. Drop into the moat surrounding the inner fort to open the teleporter next to the green door in the north-east corner, then enter that teleporter to go to the north-east ledge of the inner fort; in the middle of the inner fort you will see a pyramid with the yellow key at the top, which is defended by ophidians. Take the silver shield and ethereal crossbow in front of you to lower the first level of the pyramid, then drop into the water below and step on to the pyramid to lower a lift that goes back up to the entrance teleporter. Return to the outer fortress and enter the teleporter that has lowered in the north-west corner to go to the second ledge, which holds a Tome of Power and a dragon claw, then drop into the water and step on the pyramid again to lower the lifts which go back up to the teleporters.
Return to the outer fortress and go to the teleporter in the south-west corner to reach the third ledge, which holds a Morph Ovum and a hellstaff, then drop into the water again and step over the third level of the pyramid to activate the lifts again. Go back to the outer fortress and enter the final teleporter in the south-east corner to reach the fourth ledge, which holds a mystic urn and a phoenix rod, then collect the yellow key from the center of the pyramid to lower a lift on the west side which goes up to a yellow door. Go through the door to get an enchanted shield then go round to the east side of the ledge to get the green key—watch out for the three groups of disciples that have been released into the fort as you advance.
With the green key, open the door in the north-east corner of the fortress and follow the corridor to the blue key; taking it will lower the surrounding walls to reveal two or three iron liches, along with a maulotaur on smite-meister skill level or higher. Go back to the outer fortress and open the blue door at the south end to reveal a maulotaur guarding the exit door, then pass through the exit door and press the switch behind it (guarded by an ophidian on bringest them oneth (BTO) or higher) to lower the exit teleporter.
Other points of interest
The closets around the blue key contain a Chaos Device, a Ring of Invincibility, and a Bag of Holding.
Secrets
Official
There are no official secrets on this map.
Non-official
Passing through the yellow door will lower three banner walls in the outer fortress, releasing disciples. You can use the lowered walls as steps to walk over the low walls surrounding the disciples' platforms and drop into the blood lake below, but do not spend too much time inside it as the blood is damaging. There are two Wings of Wrath under the east and west platforms, and on BTO or lower you will find a third set under the north platform. A shadowsphere can be found at the south end of the fortress, and a Ring of Invincibility can be found at the north end. Crystal vials and ammo are also scattered around the lake. You can use a Ring of Invincibility to protect yourself from the blood, and a Chaos Device for a fast escape.
Bugs
The entire fortress is bordered by linedefs that should lower a floor with tag 18, but there is no sector with that tag in the level. This issue is inherited from the original level.
