Doom (2016) multiplayer levels
Empyrian

Empyrian is a multiplayer level of Doom (2016), first made available in the Bloodfall downloadable content pack. It is stated to be an ancient floating, crumbling colosseum, though the themes of its textures, statues, and windows give the impression of an occult temple, with imagery consistent with veneration of the Maykrs in Doom Eternal. Like Argent Breach, it is an area associated with the culture of Argent D'Nur, and murals can be seen of the Night Sentinels marching to war. The mark of the Doom Slayer also occurs in several areas. Other crumbling structures can be seen in the sky in the distance, resembling a floating cloud city of the sort frequently suggested for use in colonization of planets with ultra-dense atmospheres. The sky is wracked by constant lightning.

Analysis

The level features a complex network of teleporters and launchers which enable quick movement between different areas.

The demon rune occurs in deathmatch and team deathmatch modes. A Gauss cannon can spawn in the center of the level, and is only accessible from underneath. This map is particularly suited for team gameplay, and possesses distinct red and blue base areas. Haste and invisibility are among power-ups that can spawn at random.

Trivia

"Empyrian" may be an altered spelling of Empyrean, a name for the highest of the heavens, a place of fire and light, and the dwelling place of God in medieval Christian literature. It is notably referenced as such in Dante's Divine Comedy.
