Doom II release party
 +
The Doom II release party, also called the Doomsday party, was an event held at The Limelight night club in New York City on October 10, 1994, the official release date of Doom II (though the game had become generally available as of September 30). Invitations were open to a limited number of adult members of the public from September 23 until September 28 at midnight. The event was id Software's first official release party.

Lost soul
+
The event included a Doom II deathmatch tournament, with four-player matches in the Deathmatch 2.0 game mode. Awards were given, including a series of golden medals.
The lost soul is a flaming, floating skull with horns, first introduced in Doom's second episode, The Shores of Hell. Lost souls use themselves as weapons, charging towards the player with open jaws. Given its tendency to charge suddenly, its quickness to retaliate upon being attacked, and its ability to crowd the player, a lost soul can be a considerable annoyance. Doom II makes additional use of the lost soul by utilizing it as the projectile attack of the new pain elemental monster. They are officially described in the manual with the simple quip, "Dumb. Tough. Flies. On fire. 'Nuff said."
