'''Mordeth''' is a Doom II partial conversion by Gaston Lahaut (Mordeth). Its first episode "The City of Babel" containing six levels and some custom enemies was released on February 22, 1997. Additional episodes are still under active development and the finished project will use the Eternity Engine.

The '''Doom II release party''', also called the '''Doomsday party''', was an event held at The Limelight night club in New York City on October 10, 1994, the official release date of Doom II (though the game had become generally available as of September 30). Invitations were open to a limited number of adult members of the public from September 23 until September 28 at midnight. The event was id Software's first official release party.

Mordeth was listed on Doomworld's Top 10 Infamous WADs due to its remaining episodes taking a very long time to materialize along with a significant project personnel turnover rate. As a high profile incomplete project with the longest wait in the Doom community, the Cacowards' Mordeth Award was named after it.

The event included a Doom II deathmatch tournament, with four-player matches in the Deathmatch 2.0 game mode. Awards were given, including a series of golden medals.

Did you know that the -turbo command line parameter was added to Doom by John Carmack as a prank to allow Shawn Green to beat John Romero in a deathmatch?
