'''Doom 0.2''' is the earliest known alpha version of Doom released to testers outside of id Software. It is referred to as a "tech demo" and was released on February 4, 1993, when only two months of work had been done on the game. '''Doom 0.3''' was an alpha version of Doom built by id Software on February 28, 1993. Though apparently never released to id's alpha testers, this build was sent to several industry professionals for comment and review, and as a result it only resurfaced at a much later time compared to the other alphas.

'''Icarus: Alien Vanguard''' is a 32-level megawad released on March 21, 1996 by TeamTNT. It was developed as the collective's first freeware release, after TNT: Evilution was picked up for publishing by id Software for what would become Final Doom. The first level sees the player commandeering a shuttle and flying it to the infested exploration cruiser, the ''Icarus''. From there, the player must fight through the ship, regions of the neighboring planet, and unsafe simulations to cleanse the demonic threat.
