Ghostbusters Doom 2 is a partially-completed Doom II total conversion for ZDoom by Stephen Browning (Scuba Steve). Based on the Ivan Reitman-directed titles from the Ghostbusters movie franchise, its completed resources were released on November 5, 2002. The WAD features extensive sprite artwork, custom DeHackEd behavior, and it includes 16 in-development levels.

Project abandonment

Ghostbusters Doom 2 was meant to be a 32 level megawad covering the cinematic story of both Ghostbusters and its sequel Ghostbusters II. However with his creative skills improving, in 2002 Scuba Steve realized the old artwork wasn't up the standard he now wanted. Instead of massively overhauling the old work after a four year development period, he decided to end the project and make existing resources public. The next year he moved onto creating 2004's Cacowards-winning Action Doom.

Version history

The WAD had three demos followed by two uploads of the full TC. They were released without version numbers.

  • September 19, 1998
    • A BOOM-compatible public demo gbd2demo.zip was released to preview 5 levels and some of the new weapons.
  • August 31, 1999
    • The second demo had 6 levels and another 7th bonus level that didn't appear in the final release.
  • July 22, 2000
    • A third demo featured more sprites and redrawn weapons. This version was uploaded to the idgames archive.
  • November 5, 2002
    • The ZDoom-required full release gbd2.zip was uploaded to the project's hosted site on Doomworld.
  • April 7, 2003
    • Uploaded file gbd2.zip was replaced with a bug fix version without an accompanying text file. The project's Doomworld hosted site was not updated so this version lacks a description about what was changed.
