All the music in Heretic was created by Kevin Schilder of Raven Software. Heretic's music is different compared to Doom's soundtrack, most likely because Heretic's universe and setting is clearly distinct from Doom's. Doom features fierce science fiction full of explosions and gore. Heretic, though not completely different, is slightly more subtle than Doom. It doesn't have nearly as much explosions and is completely devoid of futuristic things and is set in a mythical medieval universe instead. Doom and Heretic storylines are also radically different, which is likely another reason for their soundtracks being distinct from one another. Heretic soundtrack is more ambient and has different instruments with more drums and harps as well as what sounds like a choir singing various "ah" sounds in fluid rhythm.

All the music in Hexen was composed by Kevin Schilder.
