The idgames archive is the largest online archive of Doom levels, modifications, tools and other material related to Doom. It is maintained by Ty Halderman.

The archive was for many years hosted at ftp.cdrom.com; however, in 2001, it was forced to move, as cdrom.com would no longer host it. The main archive can now be found at [1], but the server hosting it accepts only a limited number of connections. As a result, it is advisable to use one of the main mirrors:

Restrictions on content

The archive includes several restrictions on what may be uploaded:

  • No modified versions of original levels.
  • No unmodified copies of Doom sprites or other graphics.
  • Copyright restrictions: this includes restrictions on copyrighted sound clips and commercial MP3s. Submissions including these are likely to be rejected.
  • No auto-generated files (such as a file generated by SLIGE).
  • Nothing uploaded without permission. The archive will not host anything that the author has not granted permission to upload.

All submitted files must include a text file (ideally following the Doom file template) and including a valid email address.

Reviews

Despite Doom's age, numerous WAD files are still submitted to the archive each week. These are reviewed in The /newstuff Chronicles each week on the Doomworld website. This is named after the /newstuff directory, where the latest submissions to the archive can be found. Several regular reviewers post reviews of the latest levels, typically including screenshots.
