LegacyZ
From DoomWiki.org
LegacyZ (formerly known as Zandrossia) is one of the biggest parts of Russian Doom Community. It was formed on September 15, 2017, by two Russian doomers Dant3 and Jet. Originally a made-for-fun group on a social network, it has grown into one of the largest gaming societies in Russia that unites Doom games fans all across the CIS and helps the Doom community to obtain new members. The main and most significant activities of LegacyZ are the organization of online tournaments with monetary prizes and the holding of various LAN parties in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Offline events[edit]
The beginning[edit]
From the end of 2017 to the beginning of 2018 the community existed only as a group on a social network[1] where its administrators posted entertaining content (such as memes, funny videos, reactions to news, etc.) about Doom and some other id Software games. The name of the group Zandrossia was coined as a result of the merger of two words: Zandronum and Russia (spelled "Rossiya" in Russian).
In the spring of 2018 the number of subscribers of the Zandrossia group increased and its creators started to think how to develop the community outside the Internet. There came new people who wanted to help with the development and to become a part of a new community. The list of signature games was expanded to Doom, Quake, Serious Sam, Blood, Duke Nukem 3D, Half-Life, Counter-Strike and even Castle Crashers. The name of the group was changed to LegacyZ and this small group started to make its way to becoming a large community.
May 20, 2018 became the first trial to the fresh organization. There was Epic Con 2018[2] in St. Petersburg, which was a big festival and LegacyZ held two exhibitions of Doom and Serious Sam there. The visitors were glad to play and look at these games, so the first attempt turned out to be a success.

Online events[edit]
LegacyZ hosts online tournaments on a regular basis. Usually, the tournament is announced long before it starts, so the participants have enough time to hone their skills and prepare. The amount of cash prize depends entirely on donations they receive in a period between the announcement of the tournament and its end. 100% of the donations go directly to the prize pool.
Tournaments are held in all known deathmatch modes, such as Free For All, Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Duel, etc. Games may also vary, but Doom and Quake are played most of the time. Tournament matches are always streamed on the LegacyZ Twitch channel with live commentary. Viewers can also switch to watch the playoff brackets.[10]
The most notable online event was the Bombora Champions tournament hosted by Bombora Publisher in collaboration with LegacyZ on March 20-27, 2021.[11]

LegacyZ team[edit]

Although LegacyZ itself is a community of which all the people involved are a part, there are also people responsible for organizing events and managing the community.

Interesting facts[edit]
- Dant3, one of the leaders of LegacyZ, loves to refer to the community as a "wandering computer club", because all the equipment and computers for LAN parties often have to be transported from place to place.
- DoomCon, unlike QuakeCon, has no official status and was invented exclusively by LegacyZ due to the lack of such an event format.
- LegacyZ still has no sponsor and functioning only via donations and team members' own money.
- An article about LegacyZ called 'Russian Doom LAN Parties' was published in the 20th issue of The Doom Master Wadazine.[12]
