Literal Spiral is a single-level joke WAD compatible with vanilla Doom II. It was designed and released in October 2019 by Worm318, as a parody of a topic on the Doomworld forums. In that topic, the original poster regarded the design of the levels of Doom II created by Sandy Petersen and SIGIL (by John Romero), amongst others, as spiraling and confusing, in their words.

Bugs

  • This map consists of a single sector, and it had its REJECT lump built by ZenNode. As a result of these peculiar circumstances, all zombiemen are totally blind and, hence, inoffensive. Changing the single byte of its REJECT lump (offset 0xaf1e, in the case of this PWAD) from 0x01 to 0xfe (the value actually added by RMB, with the -perfect parameter, in this map) fixes it. This fix seems to be also applicable to any single-sector map whose REJECT lump was built by ZenNode.
  • The exit switch uses the exit linedef type 51, secret exit. Therefore, completing this map will simply restart it whilst keeping the inventory.
