MAP07: Counterpoint is the seventh map of Doom 2 the Way id Did. It was designed by Richard Frei (Tarnsman) in the style of Sandy Petersen. The par time is 2:00.

This level is a Dead Simple clone, requiring mancubi and arachnotrons to be killed in order to beat it. A spiderdemon is also present on all skill levels, though killing it is optional.

EssentialsEdit

Approach the door in front of you to open it and reveal a spiderdemon, then quickly go through the door to teleport to the south end of the map and get a backpack and shotgun. The area in front of you contains seven mancubi and four arachnotrons that must be killed to progress; use the rocket launcher and super shotgun in the western hall, as well as the plasma gun in the eastern hall, to help you.

Once all the mancubi are killed, numerous walls and floors will lower, releasing ten more arachnotrons along with the spiderdemon. Kill all the arachnotrons (the spiderdemon is optional), along with one more inside an alcove on the south side of the center room, to raise the floor of that room and allow you to reach the exit switch.

Other points of interestEdit

After teleporting to the south end of the map, look at the column directly in front of you with the evil eye. The buttons on its east and west sides can be pressed to lower an invulnerability and megasphere in the neighboring halls.

A BFG9000 is placed in a compartment on the west side of the map, but it can only be reached in deathmatch. Its presence is probably a homage to Doom II's MAP07: Dead Simple, which includes an identical compartment.
