MAP12: The Shipyard is the twelfth map of Doom 2 the Way id Did. It was designed by Sarah Mancuso (esselfortium) in the style of Sandy Petersen. The par time defined in the DEHACKED lump is 2:45.

WalkthroughEdit

EssentialsEdit

This map takes place within a sea of damaging slime; the west side consists of a main building surrounded by three smaller structures, and next to the starting point is a fifth building.

Head south-west through the sludge to a step with medikits, then climb up either staircase and head round to the south side of the main building to find a doorway leading inside, which is defended by arachnotrons. Inside the main building is a lava pool bordered by three platforms and a large central block - go to the south-east platform and press the button here to lower the lava, then drop into the pool and press the button that has been revealed by the south wall to lower a lift. Ride the lift up to get back to the south-west platform, press the northern button to lower the block and reveal three pain elementals, kill them then press the eastern button to make the block start to rise again. Jump to the block and run across it to reach a ledge on the north-east side, then drop down the hole in front of you; as you do so, the lift in front of you will lower to reveal the red skull key. The key is guarded by two cacodemons, or four on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher.

Go round to the south-east building in the main complex and go through its entrance door (requiring the red key), dispose of some waiting zombiemen and imps then approach the wooden column by the east wall to lower it and reveal a skull switch. Press the switch to lower the lift in the south-east corner and step on it to open an alcove in the south-west corner with a chaingunner, then press a second skull switch in this alcove to open a wall above the lift revealing more chaingunners. Activate the lift again and ride it up to the compartment you just opened, then press the skull switch at the north end followed by a gargoyle switch directly behind it; this will raise the column again and allow you to get on top of it. Jump north to the neighboring ledge and collect a megaarmor, then enter the tunnel next to it and go north and east to a protruding ledge. Kill an arch-vile that teleports in front of you, then step on the teleporter that lowered behind it to go to the building above the starting point.

Step outside and follow the ledge south and east to a small door, which you can open to find the blue keycard, but watch out as the door will close and the surrounding walls will open to reveal imps (plus demons on HMP or higher). Kill all the monsters then press the button on the east wall to reopen the door, then go to the south-west building in the main complex and go through its entrance door (requiring the blue key). Follow the corridor until you see a wall lowering, then enter the white teleporter behind it to finish the level.

Other points of interestEdit

Enter the exit building from the east or west sides to find a rocket launcher. Taking it will cause two demons to teleport in.

SecretsEdit

  1. At the west end, enter the building to the west and flip the north-west switch, which lowers the lift to the south. Take it up to head east to a plasma gun. (sector 5)
  2. At the west end of the main building, take the lift up. Fall into the hole to get a super shotgun. (sector 51)
  3. Approaching the teleporter to the blue key will open a closet in the sludge to the west with lost souls. Enter the closet and use the wall with skulls to find another teleporter, which takes you to a supercharge. (sector 105)
