MAP16: Methods of Fear is the sixteenth map of Community Chest. It was designed by Andy Leaver.

Walkthrough

Map of Methods of Fear
Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials

In the start room, enter the northwest teleporter (to your left, on the far side). Walk forward, and the red key will be closed off. Flip both switches at the southeast of that platform, then turn around and drop into the hall to the north. Go through either of the doors on the north wall of the wall, and hit the skull switch there. Go back out to the hall, and find a lift on the southern wall, next to a teleporter. Take the lift up. Flip the switch at the east of that platform, and the west wall will lower. Enter the teleporter that reveals. Grab the red key, and take the teleporter there. Open any of the red bars. Step onto the teleport pad, and then travel around the building to the northeast of the map. Walk under the wide shadow, and the cliff will lower. Hit the switch, and go to the northwest of the level. Press on the silver door to exit.

Other points of interest

The four teleporter pads in the start room take you to:

  • Northwest = Red key platform, at west end of long hall
  • Southwest = By the two cylindrical "blood falls" at the east end of the long hall
  • Northeast = Enclosure with super shotgun, to the south of the red pillars
  • Southeast (silver) = The wide stairs to the north of the red pillars

The walls to the enclosure with the super-shotgun can be lowered by either (1) the switch on the inside, or (2) the skull switch at the southwest of the large room with the red pillars.

You can return to the start room using teleport pads (1) at the south end of the red key platform or (2) near the east lift in the long hall.

You can return to the structure from the outside, by using a teleport pad at the southeast.

Secrets

  1. At the start of the level, open the eastern wall with exposed circuitry to find a box of shells. (sector 77)
  2. Outside the building, at the northwest corner of the southern square structure, is a soul sphere. (sector 239)
