Deus Vult II maps

MAP21: The Unholy Cathedral is the twenty-first map of Deus Vult II. It was designed by Huy Pham (Doom Marine) and uses the music track " ". The par time defined in MAPINFO is 4:00.

Suicide Exit: In the East Library section of the cathedral, after getting the chaingun on the pentagram, move up the stairs to the south. The fire on the southern end of these stairs is the exit and you can slide under by hitting the wall to the north with rockets until you slide under (or you can use the monsters nearby).

Secrets

  1. In Secret #12, find the wall that does not have a candle in front of it and go through it for a backpack. (sector 154)
  2. In the same room as in Secret #5, use the cross switch that is different from the rest to open the way upstairs. From there, head up the small set of steps to a ledge overlooking the West Antichrist section. Use the opening here to see the red ground below the cathedral, but do not go down immediately. Instead, gently drop to a plasma gun. From there, run and jump east to land on a gray ridge just under the cathedral overlooking the red ground below. Follow this ledge all the way around to an energy cell pack, looking out for the Balrog that warps in (only on Hurt Me Plenty or higher). (sector 589)
  3. In the East Library section of the cathedral, after getting the chaingun on the pentagram, move up the stairs to the south. Move past the gargoyle statue on the west side and use the red wall here to get a backpack. (sector 1061)
  4. In the same room as in Secret #5, use the cross switch that is different from the rest to open the way upstairs. From there, head up the small set of steps to a ledge overlooking the West Antichrist section. Use the opening here to see the red ground below the cathedral, but do not go down immediately. Instead, gently drop to a plasma gun, and follow the ledges down and left to a long curvy ledge. Make sure you run all the way down this ledge, you will eventually climb up to reach the yellow key. (sector 1268)
  5. In the dark gray corridor in the West Antichrist section (north of Secrets #8 and #9), there is a room with fire walls as well as graves at the north end. Approach the graves for revenants to appear (or shotgun guys on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower). Head inside the middle grave and look at the red wall to your left. You should spot a pentagram here, use it to lower the wall for a berserk pack. (sector 1412)
  6. At the southeasternmost part of the East Library section, get the plasma gun off of the pentagram, which releases some lost souls into the room. Use the bookshelf southeast of where you got the gun (it's the one with the red book) to lower a lift, and ride it up for a box of ammo. (sector 1895)
  7. In the same room as in Secret #5, use the cross switch that is different from the rest to open the way upstairs. From there, head up the small set of steps to a ledge overlooking the West Antichrist section. Run south to the ledge with candles and shotgun shells, and head through any window with corpses hanging over it back to the dark gray corridor. Return to the room from before and there should be an opening going west. Down the stairs is a super shotgun on a pentagram, and you will have to fight Hell knights or barons of Hell to escape this area. (sector 1921)
  8. At the West Antichrist section, climb the steps where all the zombiemen were and shoot the cross to the northwest, opening a new area. Go to the dark corner to the south here and press the cross switch, then head north into the dark gray corridor. You may hear a lift lowering; if you go east and south, you should find it, although it rises up after three seconds. This lift has a switch to open up an armor as well as Secret #9. The same lift can also be lowered if you go west towards the sole grave with a medikit, except it only stays down for one second. (sector 1989)
  9. From the room opened by Secret #8, use the bookshelf with candles on it to reveal a blur artifact. (sector 2012)
  10. In the East Library section of the cathedral, after getting the chaingun on the pentagram, go north to the library and follow the candles on the left bookshelf. A shotgun guy will be in front of a bookshelf with a red book here. Use this book to lower the bookshelf for an armor. (sector 2036)
  11. In the East Library section, climb up the set of stairs on the east side, going as if you are going northwest to the room with the super shotgun on the pentagram. If you turn south after you cross the second set of steps, you can spot a bookshelf with a red book. Climb to the beam and jump across, using this bookshelf to reach the higher set of bookshelves. Turn west to spot another shelf with a red book on it. Use this to get a soul sphere. (sector 2068)
  12. South of where the shotgun in the West Antichrist section of the cathedral is a mural. There is a secret behind this mural, and it can be opened if you go north of there to the lift which activates via pentagram switch. There is another pentagram switch on the wall to the left of the lift, which you can actually use from the floor. After using it, use the lift and step on the pentagram to the north if you have not done so already. Move south then and towards the rotating pentagram that functions as a teleporter. Drop towards the new opening to the south to find rockets and a rocket launcher. (sector 2500)
  13. On the red ground to the north of the cathedral, press on the column that has the Icon of Sin face on it to reveal a rocket launcher. (sector 2602)
  14. On the ledge southeast of the super shotgun in the East Library section, you can jump north to the ledge with candles, and from there, drop down to the big ledge of candles overlooking the rocket launcher. Go into the opening on the other side to find a few coffins. Take the set of stairs to a room with torches and use the green one to open a wall. On this side of the coffin room, run across the left side of the room above where the coffins are and a wall to the southeast should open with an armor on top of a pentagram. Watch out for chaingunners when you get this armor. (sector 2885)
  15. If you have stepped on every pentagram in the level, as you are exiting the cathedral to the south, turn around and you should see two areas to the left that are open with various weapons and ammo. (sector 3186)
  16. When you jump to either pentagram teleporter from the West Antichrist or East Library sections, you should wind up in a room with teleporters to both sections as well as a plasma gun on a pentagram. If you take the back side of either rotating pentagram teleporter, you will find a secret room with a soul sphere. (sector 3283)
  17. When you go down the steps from Secret #7 towards where the super shotgun is, you might notice an opening on the west side of this room. To get this opening to lower, run down the steps from the sector that is Secret #7 (just before the stairs leading down) and run around to the west side, going into the opening before it rises. When you make it, follow the steps to a room with a rocket launcher and some rockets. (sector 3516)
