MAP30: Abysm is the thirtieth and final map of Jenesis. It was designed by James Paddock (Jimmy) and uses the music track "doombg," composed by ynxyg. The par time is 3:20.

Please categorize new map articles as follows.

By title: (no ExMy or MAP##).  This is automatic if you use the "name=" parameter with map (see below).

By author: once for each credited designer.

By game title *IF* it is a commercial release (see Category:Stock levels).

If it is a secret level: .

If it is missing most of its walkthrough information: Level stub

Additionally, the map template below will automatically categorize it by slot (see Category:Levels by slot).  For single-level PWADs, add the parameter "nocat=true" to avoid this (otherwise Category:MAP01 would be swamped).  It will also automatically categorize the article by name, sorting it as if the specified slot was missing (see Category:Levels by name).  If the level title starts with "A" or "The", for proper sorting, add the parameter "name=X" where "X" is the name of the level without "A" or "The" at the beginning.

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials[edit]

Take all of the weapons and items in the starting room, then step through the mouth at the north end of the room to drop down a hole and land on a supercharge. Head straight forward to a large red column and press the eye switch underneath it; the column will start to move up and down, revealing a flesh-creature that must be destroyed to end the level. The creature has 5,000 hit points and will spawn monsters in groups of four; there are eight spawn points in the blood pool you are standing in, and two more on the center platforms on the east and west sides of the arena.

It is possible to destroy the creature from the blood pool, but you are likely to be overwhelmed by the spawned monsters. A safer option is to reach the enclosures on either side of the creature, which each contain a megaarmor, a BFG9000, a megasphere and five energy cell packs; these enclosures will protect you from most of the monsters, but not flying enemies. To reach the enclosures, go to the eye switch but do not press it; the column will not open and the monster spawner will not activate. Two walls will lower by the arena entrance, allowing you to reach two more eye switches that will raise bridges leading to the center platform and a supercharge.

 • On the west side, press the gargoyle switch to open it then drop into a pit containing cacodemons and lost souls. Press the eye switches at the north and south ends quickly, then run into either teleporter to return to the upper floor and shoot a third eye switch that has opened in front of you to raise the bridge to the west enclosure. A set of platforms will rise in front of you, leading to a teleporter that goes back to the arena.
 • On the east side, press the gargoyle switch to open it then step through and turn right to see a narrow ledge guarded by lost souls and Hell knights. After pressing the eye switch at the south end of the ledge, you must shoot eight more eye switches in sequence before they close to progress - the order is second west, top east, bottom west, top west, third east, third west, bottom east, second east. After shooting the last switch, cross the platforms that rise to the north to reach another eye switch, press it to raise the bridge to the east enclosure then enter the nearby teleporter to go back to the arena.

Once you have gained access to an enclosure, press the switch that reveals the creature then run to the enclosure and press the switch next to the bars to open them. From here you can destroy the creature in relative safety.
