Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

EssentialsEdit

This map has significant problems with broken scripting and enemies that never teleport in, but it can be completed. Provoking infighting is crucial, at least on Ultra-Violence, as ammo is significantly limited. Some weapons can be found in multiple places; the easiest section to start with is likely the rocky area at the south end with the first secret. There's nothing crucial there, but it does get you some ammunition and other supplies.

After that, get the super shotgun from secret #2 and then head to the northeast where secret #7 is and collect the rocket launcher. You will need it for most of the map.

Once you have your basic weapons, you want to head to the river in the northern part of the map and swim through the underwater tunnels to secrets #4 and #5. Keep going after you have collected them, and you will eventually wrap around from the northeast to the northwest again, and get into the blue-tinged ruins north of the river. Collecting the blue skull key here is required for progression. The monsters that teleport in afterwards can be largely ignored—the ones on the northeast platform will infight each other if you wait a little bit for multiple types to teleport in, the spider mastermind behind the northwestern gate is completely ignorable.

You will likely also want to collect the yellow skull key from the eastern platforming section. You need the rocket launcher in order to deal with the sniping monsters during this. Trying different routes up the mountain can give you better angles to attack some enemies. Once you have the yellow skull key, you can return to the southern rocky area and use it to unlock a chainsaw as well as a better prize later on.

With both of these skull keys, head northwest to the blue skull key lock. Open it, and follow the right-hand path all the way around to the western side of the map, clearing as you go. Once you have the chaff cleared out, push into the central ruins area. You do not need to kill the caged monsters (cyberdemons on Ultra-Violence) right now, just make sure their companions are dealt with, ideally using the caged cyberdemons to do the work for you.

South of the central ruins, use the yellow skull key again to unlock a cavern containing a small fight and the BFG. Again, infighting will do good work for you here. Save the cells for the cyberdemons, because your next task is to kill at least the western two caged cyberdemons. Right by the southwestern caged cyberdemon is a broken house, climb the walls and jump north across the columns to another broken house—if you did not kill the two caged cyberdemons, they will easily pick you off while you do this platforming. Hidden in the northeastern corner of this second broken house is a small space containing the red keycard. Jumping to this house can be tricky; if you miss the small space but land inside the rest of the house you can climb back up to the house walls and drop down into the small space.

With the red keycard, you can now open the central circular building in these ruins. When you do so, the remaining monsters in the level will teleport in, and there will be some more inside the circular building. After you finish cleaning up, the bloody bath in that central building contains the red skull key. Collect it, and head to the red skull key door east of this ruins section to exit the level.

On Ultra-Violence, all but six monsters can be killed—the remaining six are lost souls in a broken monster closet that never teleport into the map.

Other points of interestEdit

SecretsEdit

  1. In the rocky area at the southern end of the map, head to the end of the high-up, western ledge, and continue north along the thin strip of path hidden in the western wall. Go north and make a running jump across to the alcove with a backpack, a stimpack, and ammo. (sector 260)
  2. Head east from Secret #1 to the water, then dive in and head all the way southeast to find stimpacks, ammo clips, health bonuses, a box of shotgun shells, shotgun shells, and a super shotgun. (sector 483)
  3. In Secret #2, the central column before the super shotgun contains a megaarmor. There is nothing that can lower the sector, however. (sector 738)
  4. In the eastern platforming section, make your way to the platform on the west side, head south, and jump to the platform there. Head around counter-clockwise and make your way to the rightmost edge to find a megaarmor and energy cell packs (only on Ultra-Violence or higher). (sector 1030)
  5. At the north end, fall into the water and enter the tunnel to the west. Go east, past the health bonuses and armor bonuses, then find the next place to surface at. Surface there for two secrets, containing shotgun shells, rockets, a box of ammo, and a computer area map. (sector 709)
  6. See Secret #5. (sector 710)
  7. At the north end, go to the south set of rocks and rocket jump up to a section that connects southeast, where you can find a backpack. (sector 1382)
  8. Get the rocket launcher at the northeastern end of the map and perform a rocket jump from the central wooden pedestal to the hole inside the stone pillar where the revenants are placed. From here jump over to the small ledge in the eastern wall, and then straferun and jump over to the small platform to the southwest. There is a very thin strip of staircase running along the eastern wall beneath the hole above. Jump across, aiming for the area beneath the southern edge of the hole above to reach the foot of the stair. Carefully slide up to the northern end and crouch to get into the hole with the blue keycard. The blue keycard, in turn, can be used to unlock the elevator in the starting cabin and receive a soulsphere. (sector 660)
  9. In the ruins area, go to the super shotgun (only on Ultra-Violence or higher), then get on the high wall and go across the pillars south to the marble one with the megaarmor. (sector 357)

BugsEdit

A medikit (Thing 343), a box of bullets (341), a box of shotgun shells (340), a box of rockets (342), and eights sets of 4 shotgun shells (334 through 339, 1050, and 1051) have no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so they do not actually appear in the level.
