MAPX09: Complexity is the ninth map in the Director's Cut episode of Simplicity. It was designed by Melissa McGee (Agent Spork) and uses the music track "Shawn's Got the Shotgun", originally created by Robert Prince for Doom II. The par time defined in MAPINFO is 4:05.

Walkthrough

Map of Complexity
Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials

Press the gargoyle switch in front of you (which will also collect a shotgun and super shotgun at your feet) to raise the floor; after a moment, the surrounding walls will lower to reveal four revenants and four demons that must be killed to advance. Once the last enemy dies, imps will start spawning in the arena and the metal platforms in the corners will lower to allow four mancubi to teleport in; focus on the mancubi first as the imps will not stop spawning until they are all killed. When all the imps and mancubi have been cleared, three compartments will open on the east, south and west sides containing six arachnotrons (nine on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher), as well as more demons on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare.

After slaying the latest wave of enemies, a door on the north side will open revealing two or three cacodemons guarding a teleporter. Arm yourself before entering the teleporter as you will be surrounded by demons, followed by four Hell knights and then a cyberdemon. Once the cyberdemon dies a series of brick platforms will rise, forming a bridge that leads east to another platform - go to this platform (do not fall off as the sky below is instantly fatal) and step on the marble teleporter to end the level.
