The Mauler is a weapon from Strife. The Mauler is the only weapon to have two different methods of attack that use the same ammo. The Mauler uses energy pods and energy packs for ammo. The energy pods and packs are also used by the flamethrower.

The primary function of the Mauler works exactly like the Super Shotgun from Doom II, consuming 20 energy cells to use. Non-robotic enemies that are killed by the Mauler disintegrate.

The secondary function uses 30 energy cells, but shoots a large ball of energy which can kill almost anything in one hit, sometimes even Inquisitors in a single hit if the player is lucky or hits the Inquisitor dead center. The player will lose 20% health (which can be applied to your armor when applicable) when using the secondary function. After the projectile hits something, a circle of smaller plasma balls will come out to hit other enemies.

Tip: Try to avoid firing in the secondary mode in close combat. The initial blast can hurt you significantly. The secondary projectiles do not hurt you however.

The Mauler only appears in two levels in the whole game, the Bailey Warehouse and Factory: Conversion Chapel (inside a secret room).

This weapon consumes energy cells for its use. The cells ammo type is shared with the Flamethrower

Ammo pickup values are as follows:

Mauler: 40 Cells

Energy Cell (acquired from any source): 20 Cells

Energy Pack: 100 Cells

Flamethrower: 100 Cells
