Mayan Mishap is a five-level PWAD for MBF-compatible source ports, created by Tango. The maps are based on speedmapped layouts made by Tango, being improved later in both visual and gameplay quality. The maps feature a distinct Mayan theme, and exhibit a high level of difficulty. Additionally, the WAD features a custom palette, as well as new weapon sprites and sounds, and use of DeHackEd to alter monster behaviour and add new monsters to the bestiary.
Development of Mayan Mishap began in early 2014, although the secret map was initially made in 2011. The final version was released on 5 December, 2014. The WAD received one of the 21st Annual Cacowards.

Custom sprites
Mayan Mishap features a new palette, based on the PalPlus palette by Sigvatr. Tweaks were made to the green and red ranges, and the blue range has been converted to purple. Many sprites were recoloured to account for the new palette, and also to fit the theme of the maps. Among the more noticeable changes are the keys, which are now found in light blue, green, and white.
Custom monsters
Many projectiles move with greater speed than their original counterparts, making projectile-based monsters more dangerous. Demons and spectres were also modified to run faster than usual.
- Greater mancubus
- A flying version of the mancubus, with numerous tentacles in place of its legs. It has 650 hit points, and attacks by firing two sets of fireballs. The first set has two fireballs, the second has three. The greater mancubus replaces the Wolfenstein SS.
- Cyber baron
- A combination of the cyberdemon and the baron of Hell, the latter of which it replaces. It has 900 hit points and either throws two fireballs in rapid succession, or launches a rocket from the rocket launcher fused into its right arm.
- Plasma trooper
- A fast-moving zombie armed with a plasma rifle, with 160 hit points. It replaces the zombieman; however, none of the included levels contain a plasma trooper.
