OTEX

From DoomWiki.org

OTEX is a texture pack created by Ola Björling (ukiro). It was released on December 10, 2018 for Doom's 25th anniversary, alongside Eviternity, a megawad developed using the pack.

OTEX quickly became popular and has been used by many mappers. For his work on OTEX, Björling was named 'Creator of the Year' at the Cacowards 2019.

Overview[edit]

OTEX features 2624 textures made from 4042 patches, and 1309 flats. It provides a SWITCHES lump defining 26 new texture pairs, and an ANIMATED lump defining 77 new animations spread between 48 for textures and 29 for flats. Some of the switch textures are animated in their "ON" state. There are 51 skies, most of which are 1024-texel wide (one is 512-texel wide), and all of which are 200-, 240-, or 256-texel tall.

Nearly all flats and wall textures follow the same naming convention: the letter O (for Ola), followed by a group identifier of four letters (for example: BASE), a single letter for color or subgroup, and finally two digits. Some flats use cardinal and ordinal directions (such as _E or NW) to indicate their positioning relative to other flats of the same group. Skies are simply called OSKY followed by a two-digit number.
