The pistol in the initial view on entering MAP01: Entryway.

The pistol fires bullets one at a time. Players spawn with a pistol and will always have it (but not necessarily any bullets). There are no pistol pickups.

The pistol is fully automatic, but holding down the trigger results in a certain amount of recoil, causing later bullets not to travel in precisely the same direction as the first.

A newly spawned player has only the pistol, 50 bullets, and his fists.

The images for the pistol in Doom were most likely created from the Beretta 92FS pistol, which is currently the standard service pistol of the U.S. military.
