QZDoom is a fork of GZDoom with support for 32-bit true-color rendering, first released on October 18, 2016. It was created by dpJudas and Rachael Alexanderson (Eruanna). It was originally opened as a pull request against ZDoom, to replace the 8-bit software renderer with a 32-bit one, but negative responses and lack of motion toward adoption from ZDoom's core developer team, combined with movement of the project in a radically new direction, eventually led to it becoming a separate project.[1]

After the true-color renderer was merged in the parent port for the GZDoom 3.0 release, QZDoom now serves as an experimental port to test and refine ambitious new features before their eventual inclusion into GZDoom.
