"There's nothing left for you, but a slow death, as your lungs fill with toxic gasses."
― Malcolm Betruger [source]

Recycling - Sector 2: Waste Recycling Center is the thirteenth level of Doom 3. A trap is sprung on the player by Betruger, who reveals he sent the transmission if the player hasn't already, slowly filling the building with toxic gases. The mancubus is introduced in a cutscene and cherubs make their first appearances.

Entering the sector 2 of the recycling plant, the marine is contacted by Malcolm Betruger over the VidCom. Betruger either "thanks" the marine for contacting the Earth Fleet, or says that he'll simply contact the Fleet himself. He then gloats about his plan to capture the Fleet once it arrives, and use it to bring his demonic legions to Earth. Toxic gas then begins to flood the facility.

The marine proceeds further, and after a short while he finds the door to the monorail, but it's sealed due to the large level of toxicity in the facility, so the air filtration system needs to be activated. The marine races through the facility, fighting numerous enemies and avoiding toxic gas leaks everywhere. At one point he stumbles upon a room that is also locked due to gases, so he needs to find a control panel to vent the gases away. Once the room is cleared of its toxins, he encounters new monsters on the other side: the cherubs. The marine has to go through the lower levels of facility and at some point appears in a large room filled with waste where he has to fight with a new, mini-boss-like enemy - the mancubus. After riding the elevator back to the upper level, the marine appears in a room severely polluted with gas and he starts taking damage from it. He needs to rush to three terminals and activate the air filtering in each of them, thus cleaning the room of gases and unlocking the hazard door to the monorail. The marine returns to that door and exits the level.

Locker codes[edit]

For the sources of the codes, see Doom 3 locker codes.
  • Storage locker #003 - Ammunition: 483. Contains: security armor, cells (large), clip (large) x4, shells (large).

  • On the original Xbox version of the game this level was divided into two parts: Recycling - Sector 2 and Recycling - Sector 3.
  • If the player attempts to backtrack to the Underground Hazard arena where the mancubus fight takes place after having returned to the monorail airlock, a large pipe will fall from the ceiling in the Lower Lift Area and block the broken stairway leading down. An exceptionally prolonged earthquake is caused by the pipe's fall.
