SLADE is a modern, open-source, cross-platform level editor (except versions 3.0.0, 3.0.1 and 3.0.2) and WAD editor (since version 3.0.0) for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux created and maintained by Simon Judd (with code contributions by Gez to version 3).

History

Early development

The very first alpha version of SLADE (v0.1) was released on November 21, 2004.[1]

  • SLADE 0.3 was released on February 15, 2005.[2]
  • SLADE 0.4 was released on May 9, 2005.[3]
  • SLADE 0.5 was released on May 30, 2005.[4]
  • SLADE 0.6 was released on August 31, 2005.[5]

SLADE 1

  • SLADE 1.01 was released on November 21, 2005.[6] It is the first full release.
  • SLADE 1.02 was released on January 1, 2006.[7]
  • SLADE 1.1 was released on February 6, 2006.[8]
  • SLADE 1.11 was released on February 22, 2006.[9]
  • SLADE 1.12 was released on March 14, 2006.[10]

SLADE 2

  • SLADE 2.0 beta version was released on June 6, 2007,[12] but was abandoned afterwards.

  • SLADE 3 beta 1 was released on January 29, 2010.[13]
  • SLADE 3 beta 2 was released on March 2, 2010.[14]
  • SLADE 3 beta 3 was released on March 30, 2010.[15]

Map editing is not finished yet, but UDMF and Doom64 EX are supported in addition to the Doom and Hexen map formats.
