Shadowcaster is a nine-level episode replacement for Heretic, designed by Stephen Clark (The Ultimate DooMer). It was initially released on May 31, 2002, with an updated release following on September 8 later that year. It was the author's first foray into making maps for Raven Software games, and was later followed by Serpent: Resurrection for Hexen, which presents itself as a direct follow-up of the events of this mod.
