Slough of Despair (Doom 2016)

Slough of Despair is a classic level from Doom (2016). It is a recreation of Doom's E3M2: Slough of Despair that includes enemies from the later game, but retains the original game's pickup and decoration sprites.

This level is unlocked after finding a part of it hidden in the Kadingir Sanctum stage. Once unlocked, the full level can be played from the "Classic Maps" tab in the Campaign menu.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

In this level you start with the pistol, chainsaw, combat shotgun, chaingun, plasma rifle and rocket launcher.

This level is shaped like a giant hand. Head for the dark wall on your left as the level starts and follow it past a pinky and possessed soldier until you reach a medikit guarded by a second soldier, then continue following the wall as it turns right and then left towards a tall red firestick - you will pass another pinky guarding a berserk pack, so pick it up and use it to bludgeon anyone who blocks your way. Turn left at the firestick to walk through a narrow passage and climb the step ahead, which will lower a wall behind you revealing two cacodemons, then continue on to the blue skull key at the tip of the little finger. Go past where you found the cacodemons and turn left to enter the ring finger then walk towards the stone wall in front of you which will lower to reveal several lost souls. Go past them to a door with blue skull markings and open it to find a skull switch that will lower the neighboring floor, revealing the white exit teleporter.

Other points of interest[edit]

At the end of the index finger is a skull switch; press it to reveal a rocket launcher and a box of rockets.

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the thumb is a small lava pit. Walk over it to lower a nearby wall, revealing a chaingun.
  2. Below the little and ring fingers is a rock that looks like an arrow when viewed on the automap. Open the wall this arrow points at to find a plasma rifle and a medikit.
  3. At the end of the middle finger is an arrow on the floor pointing to a skull switch; flip it to get a supercharge (AKA mega health).

Bugs[edit]

After killing the cacodemons in the little finger, enter their enclosure and a blue column will rise from the floor. Looking at the column, it will appear to be floating in mid-air.

Trivia[edit]

  • There are two skull switches at the end of the middle finger - the left switch reveals a supercharge, while the right switch opened a second chamber behind it in the original level. In the remake, the left switch opens both walls and the right switch causes a pinky to appear from nowhere.
