TNT: Revilution is a 32-level megawad and unofficial sequel to Final Doom's TNT: Evilution, developed by members of the Doomworld forums and released in 2017. The project had a long and turbulent development dating back to 2009, where it was originally part of TNT 2: Devilution before becoming a separate project led Steve Muller (Kyka) in 2014. After changing hands multiple times, the WAD under the leadership of Micah Petersen (Jaws in Space) was finished and uploaded to the /idgames archive on 29 May, 2017, and was followed by several bugfix patches.

It was named as a runner-up at the 2017 Cacowards, and also received the Mordeth award for longest development time.

Development history

The development of Revilution has its roots as part of TNT 2: Devilution, an unofficial TNT: Evilution sequel project founded by Whoo in 2009. Many of the maps early in the project's development were created by Steve Muller (Kyka). After several heated arguments and confusion over the project's direction, almost all of Muller's work was ejected from the project in February 2014, prompting to him to start his own community-made TNT sequel, subtitled Revilution. For additional help with creative direction and technical aspects of the new project, Muller brought former TNT 2 playtesters Megamur and Ragnor Berntsen (Devalaous) on as co-leaders, and they were later joined by Tristan Clark (Eris Falling). It was during this early period that much of the project's original soundtrack was written.

Due to real-life circumstances, Megamur and Berntsen later left the project, leaving only Muller and Clark to continue work. To help with quality control on newer maps and existing ones to be selected for removal, Micah Petersen (Jaws in Space), joined the team. In mid-2015, Muller quietly dropped out of activity, leaving Clark and Petersen to take over as project leaders. Several of the maps brought over from the TNT 2 era were dropped from the project at this point, leaving more room for contributions from other mappers. Additionally, former TeamTNT member Jeremy Doyle returned to the Doom community, and submitted several MIDI files to the Revilution soundtrack.

Due to lack of activity, Clark stepped down from the project in early 2016, leaving Petersen as the sole leader, who would oversee the development through to its eventual completion the following year. As of 14 July, 2017, the original TNT 2 project remains unfinished.
