Editing Talk:Automap asteroids From DoomWiki.org Warning: You are not logged in. Your IP address will be recorded in this page's edit history. Anti-spam check. Do not fill this in! Somebody should make a new version of ZDaemon to include this! : ;) As I understand it, they'd have to basically re-write it. -- Jdowland 18:35, 26 Nov 2005 (UTC) ---- I don't think the presence of Commander Keen Pong is particularly relevant, but I haven't yet removed it outright. Bloodshedder 18:38, 18 March 2006 (UTC) :With the addition of info on the Breakout game in Catacomb 3-D, I think that it helps to establish the fact that Automap Asteroids was to be just the next in a series of easter egg classic games. --Quasar 06:35, 24 December 2007 (UTC) ::I rewrote this to make it more consistent, as the menu games in Keen4-6 and Catacombs 3D are almost identical. None of these is an easter egg, so as Bloodshedder feels, I'm not sure exactly how relevant this section is. ::I checked with other vintage id games (whatever was on the id Anthology) and found no other menu games like these. Cat3D and Keen4-6 seem to be the only games that do this. They also use the same menu system (same graphics and behavior). Zack 16:29, 24 December 2007 (UTC) :::I was so certain of this that I almost reverted, but it turns out you're right and I was crazy. Catacomb 3D's minigame is just another Pong clone. The only thing I can think of is that I was somehow confusing it with the Breakout minigame in the DOS game "Crime City," which can be played on your office computer. Oh well. --Quasar 02:51, 5 February 2008 (UTC) ::::Of course it's relevant. It was an ongoing trend at id Software to insert classic arcade games into their own games. Pong in Keen, Breakout in Catacomb, PacMan in Wolfie, Asteroids in Doom, you get the picture. I'm surprised there was no, say, Missile Command in Quake, but by then I guess the tongue-in-cheek self deprecation had (sadly) left the company for good. Nowadays id's just another run-of-the-mill tech workshop. I miss Tom Hall.
