Prototype IWAD[edit]

Not sure how much of this should go into the page, so I'll just dump it here for someone else to decide on.

Firstly, metadata from the _DEUTEX_ lump reveals that the PWAD name before being merged was SNOT.WAD. There's also a timestamp of 1996-09-09 20:56:50.

Secondly, the HFS+ and ISO-9660 filesystems have different timestamps for the files. I've made a list of them all as a GitHub Gist.[1]

Thirdly, the prototype has the following differences from the normal Chex.wad/CHEX.WAD:

  • Three sound effects are different.
    • DSITEMUP
    • DSPOSACT
    • DSWPNUP
  • The victory music has reverted to the original Doom version.
  • ENDOOM has no text.
  • A lot of sprites for unused Things are intact, instead of being replaced with transparent placeholders.

    • Cacodemon
    • partial invisiblity
    • invulnerability

  • The patch SW18_7 has been modified
  • Sprites for two monsters were imperceptibly modified
    • Flemoidus bipedicus
    • The Flembrane
  • The demos are unmodified from Ultimate Doom 1.9, and desync to varying degrees.
  • All five Chex Quest maps have changed as well, although I'm not sure how exactly.
