Is the year category for PWADs to be the year it was released or the year it was designed/has a timestamp for inside the zip? --Quasar (talk) 13:13, 18 July 2016 (CDT)

US$0.02: I think we've always used release year.  A mod derives importance mainly from its reception, not its development process.  It's also the least ambiguous approach — would we put a community megawad in five categories because it was built in fits and starts?  Time stamp is normally equal to release year, obviously, but where it differs, the reason can be marginalia (e.g. modifying file metadata or dumping a broken hard drive).  None of this should discourage noting an anomaly in the body text where historically relevant, as it is here.    Ryan W (usually gone) 08:56, 22 July 2016 (CDT)
In this case it's likely because it was designed with the goal of being part of the Master Levels, and then Mustaine delayed releasing it until that was officially out and he could talk about it legally. Worth noting as a trivia item probably, but I'm going to revert the categorization since you agree on the use of release date. --Quasar (talk) 14:06, 22 July 2016 (CDT)
