These pages are now redirects because:

  • If a reader were to type "ExMy" or "MAP##" into their browser by hand, 99.9 percent of the time they'd be looking for the Ultimate Doom or HOE map.  (There shouldn't be any links of that form within the wiki main space itself.  If you see one, let me know and I'll do another sweep for them.)
  • Having "ExMy" or "MAP##" (no level name or WAD name) listed at the top of the category page looks silly and, even less helpfully, was just a redirect back to the selfsame category page.  And as long as a non-redirect article is called "ExMy" or "MAP##", some well-meaning editor will sooner or later be a literalist and put it in that category.  Then we're back where we started.
  • In the very unlikely event that someone types "ExMy" or "MAP##" into their browser and is actually looking for Final Doom or a PWAD, they're still one click away from the disambiguation page (which is the minimum number of clicks possible since there are no hard redirects to categories).

I think it's more efficient this way, and preserves the good features we originally wanted when we invented the "category" disambiguation method.    Ryan W 23:22, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
