Possible Cause

This may be caused by the wall sliding code which sets the momentum of the player when sliding along the wall. GhostlyDeath 18:44, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

BOOM

I have added factual accuracy dispute to this article due to the fact it is supposed to be about a vanilla phenomenon, but is describing along with it a deliberate feature added to the BOOM source port. In BOOM any time a sector's friction is lower than normal, the player will bounce off walls if he strikes them within a certain range of angles over a minimum momentum threshold. This was added as a deliberate feature for giving the feel of stumbling around on ice, running into walls. It may be possible to "bounce" in certain circumstances in the vanilla engine, but it's never so pronounced an effect as this one in BOOM, which is actually reversing the player's momenta fully and giving off an "oof" sound when it happens.

These are two different things that must not be conflated with each other if this is to be discussed as a bug/error in the vanilla game engine. --Quasar 05:15, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

The article was possibly influenced by this discussion.  Since I don't know anything about the source code, my descriptions of the issue may be sloppy, but the demo is a Compet-N submission so definitely not Boom compatibility.    Ryan W 05:52, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
