This is all rather dependent on OS and source port, is it not? For example, a Linux-based executable would certainly not use batch files containing DOS commands, and most Macintosh implementations of Doom refuse to play or record LMP files. I hope that someone who has played a bunch of different versions/ports/OSes (i.e. not me :> will see this page and restructure it to be a bit more specific.
