Two little thoughts for this entry.

We say that the descriptions of COMPET-N categories are "taken from the Compet-N FAQ", but today I revised them to make them (I hope) slightly clearer. So are they still "taken from the Compet-N FAQ"? Did somebody, for example, go to the trouble of getting permission from that site to repost them as long as they weren't altered? (And if so, for future reference, where on earth did it say that in the existing article?)

That entire huge list of footnotes from the COMPET-N "rules" page should not be included here, even if our policies allow it. If someone actually needs to know that stuff, then they're seriously thinking about submitting something, and if they're seriously thinking about submitting something, they should be reading their favorite speedrunning site for rules clarifications, not this one. Okay, I indirectly changed my mind about the second one. :> The tables in the articles for the individual categories make less sense without the information in the footnotes. Ryan W 18:37, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC).

Wow, too much cherry Coke that day. Let's start over.

Does anyone know how to contact Adam Hegyi? The address on the COMPET-N page bounces, and I've wondered if the rule descriptions on this page are so close to the originals as to be a copyright violation without his permission. Ryan W 23:02, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The rule descriptions can be copied under the fair use doctrine. I'm not sure if it matters that they have been modified, though. I haven't seen Adam Hegyi in several months. Fredrik 11:29, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
If the modification does matter, then that also applies to the "storyline" sections we've scooped right out of the game manuals, because AFAICT those have all been changed as well. Ryan W 21:12, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I found a second address elsewhere on the site, and re-sent my letter.  Let's see what happens.   Ryan W 06:32, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Update: I heard back from Adam Hegyi, who has no problems with the rule descriptions.  He says (among other things which I shall incorporate into our tables): "[T]he real value at COMPET-N are the demos themselves, and those are owned by their authors."   :>      Ryan W 20:04, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I want to add an MMH page and put links to the episode runs into our articles, but the COMPET-N database has been down for days.   Ryan W 23:37, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

categories

The categories are working in the wrong direction here: Speedrun should not be in the categories UV speed | Pacifist | Tyson ; they should be in Category:Speedrun. I haven't fixed this yet though. -- Jdowland 22:26, 11 Jan 2006 (UTC)
