Who owns the copyrights to this game? 69.182.106.175 01:26, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[IANAL]   If it was published by Velocity, then it is still owned by Velocity, because copyrights are quite long-lived nowadays (at least 70 years for people and 95 years for companies).  Of course, 11 years was a while ago in gaming terms, and Velocity may have gone out of business, in which case their assets may have been acquired by somebody else.  How you would investigate that I don't know; try digging around in the archives of GNU mailing lists (FreeDevelopers.net maybe), where many programmers have undoubtedly asked analogous questions.    Ryan W 15:25, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
It was only published by Velocity, it was developed by Rogue Entertainment. They have since gone out of business. Fraggle 18:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Strife based on Doom 1.8/1.9?Edit

Music change cheat in strife has invalid music catching code(Chocolate Strife code). This check was introdused in Doom v1.8(Chocolate Doom code).

You would need to verify which of 1.8 or 1.9 fixed the tracer loading bug to narrow this down any further. v1.666 has always been assumed up til now. --Quasar (talk) 11:39, 12 January 2016 (CST)
It's entirely possible that they started with 1.666 and got a select few fixes backported from later versions. Sodaholic (talk) 15:17, 12 January 2016 (CST)
Some findings: 1) i_sound.c in strife is based on 1.666/1.7. 2)tracer field is not cleared even in the linuxdoom 1.10. 3) Music cheat code in strife has invalid music checking code which was introduced in Doom 1.8. 4) The automap cheat code was disabled in deathmatch in Doom 1.9. Strife has this fix. 5) Strife and Doom 1.9 use the same version of the DMX. So i think strife initially was based on either 1.666 or 1.7 and then updated to 1.9 and the low level sound code was missed.--Nukeykt (talk) 22:26, 9 June 2016 (CDT)
It took so long to develop that it doesn't surprise me, however it leaves us not much closer to an answer for what we should have in the "based on" version, since it's at best in a mixed state. --SpiderMastermind (talk) 22:45, 9 June 2016 (CDT)
