These are totally different. Lasers emit EMR - e.g. visible light, x-ray, gamma, etc. Plasma is ionised gas - a hot soup of ionised nucleons and electrons stripped off of them. Subatomic particles, of which the EPD output is supposed to consist - are hadrons (protons, neutrons), or maybe even quarks and gluons, if the nuclei are being deconstructed too. So I changed the passage to describe only the visual semblance to some sort of plasma.
